CIP Newspaper Collection

Today, 7 September, my friends and I went to collect newspapers, magazines and clothes from some of the sengkang residents. It was sort of fun, but a bit ...scary... My class was divided into 5 groups that each have different number of students. My group consisted of 8 pupils. The bad thing was, there was only 2 boys including me! If I remembered correctly, the group consisted of me, Darren, Jasmine, Ke Lin, Kimberly, Elise, Meryl, and another girl that I forgot who was that...

I reached school at about 12.50pm, where we were divided into the 5 groups. We were then briefed on what we would do and the procedures again. My class would be collecting the newspapers from block 317A,B,C,and D, if I was correct. At first I did not know what block I was going to(a,b,c or d).

We then set off to the designated blocks.(about 1.30pm) We walked quite a long way from our school to the block. When we reached there,we were quite confused. Then, the teacher in charge of my group told us what to do,then I understand.

The block had 16 floors, 58 blocks.4 units on each level from 3 to 16 and 2 units on level 2. When we reached the top, we looked down. To me, it was very high as my house was not that high as to level sixteen. It was about 5 or more floors down.

We then split ourselves into 2 smaller groups, consisting of 4 pupils in each group. We knocked the doors if there were no newspapers outside the doors, or press the doorbell. There were some owners who did not open the doors and some who did not have anything to give. But, we all remembered to greet and thank.

We would bring them down to the first level, depending on the amount of newspapers we had, or take the staircase down, for a parent/teacher-in-charge would tie up the newspapers using rafia strings.

After finishing collecting(about 3.50pm), we went down to the ground floor and brought the heavy newspapers to block 317B, where the collection point was. Another group was already there and some of them helped us with it.

After waiting for about ten to fifteen minutes, 3 groups, excluding Shaun, set off back to our school.

We then reached school at about 3.10pm, we saw pupils from several classes coming out of the school.

"Wow! They so early come out already! That means they about 3pm reach school!" My class mates exclaimed, including my teachers and students from other groups behind us within the class.

We washed our hands and took our buns and mineral water. I took a chocolate one, which some of my pupils thought that there were no more chocolate ones, and took strawberry ones. But actually there was some!

(about 3.20)We then went up to the computer lab to do the surveys.

I was dismissed at about 3.30pm which was super early!

I think it is fun and interesting to collect newspapers as we can raise the awareness of recycling. I enjoyed but I had to carry heavy newspapers.
